Thank you for the opportunity to introduce our company, Akron Specialized Products. As the parent company of Diamond America Corporation and Akron Tool & Die, we provide our customers with value added engineering, manufacturing and service in the continuous extrusion market. The following is a brief overview of our companies.
The assets of Diamond America were purchased by Akron Specialized Products in June of 2000. As a provider of single screw extruders to the polymer industry, Diamond America also offered custom designed extruders. After a management assessment of strengths and weaknesses, it was apparent that Diamond’ s core strengths were better aligned with service to the “ cold feed” extruder market. Diamond America quickly repositioned itself to provide specialized mixing and extrusion services to the food, catalyst, and mastic arena. Engineering services were revamped and investments were made to include state of the art flow simulation software and solid modeling which includes three dimensional die flow analysis showing areas of high or low shear and temperature/pressure variations, again providing technologies that exceed customer expectation. Analysis of the resin or resins you are processing is also available (and often necessary) to determine rheological characteristics and viscosity information.
Recognizing the need to further differentiate themselves, the company added lab facilities that include floor standing and table-top extruders for use in demonstration and feasibility testing.
Today, Diamond America operates from a 10,000 square foot facility just minutes from Akron Tool & Die. The company designs and manufactures a complete line of extruders (screws ranging from 1/2” through 12” ) for the food, rubber, catalyst, and plastic industries. The company also manufactures and rebuilds augers, screws, barrels, liners and other related components.
Akron Tool & Die was established in 1941 as a manufacturing center to service the burgeoning rubber industry. As the decades passed and industry changed, our company redirected its efforts to service the 1960’ s plastics boom. We became a major supplier of extrusion dies, adapters, feed pipes, and other related components to original equipment manufacturers (OEM’ s) of polymer processing machines. Laminating, coating, sheet and film dies were just some of the items produced.
During the 1990’ s we added engineering and design services to offer our customers custom solutions to uncommon extrusion problems. This led to our own product lines for strip dies, pellet dies and monolayer blown film dies just to name a few. From our many years of experience, we modified geometries and concepts allowing us to “ crossover” to other extruded products such as food, catalysts, and mastics.
